IB HL GEOGRAPHY
Clare Cole
Describe the functioning of the atmospheric system in terms of the energy balance between solar and longwave radiation. Explain the changes in this balance due to external forcings (changes in solar radiation, changes in the albedo of the atmosphere and changes in the longwave radiation returned to space). Discuss the causes and environmental consequences of global climate change.

The Impact of Climate Change: Food and Forests
Below is an infopic designed by myself and a classmate. It briefly explains the impact climate change is having on food and forests worldwide. Click on the infographic for more information and specific case studies concerning this issue.
The Impact of Climate Change: Infopics
Below are a collection of infopics designed by our class. Each focuses on how climate change impacts something specific in this world, including coastal areas, freshwater resources, ecosystems, health, industry, and food and forests. Linked to each infopic is the data related each topic.

Climate Change: Solutions
In the gallery below are just a few of the solutions created, in the attempt to curb and eventually end climate change. Treaties such as the Kyoto Protocol, COP21, and methods like geo-engineering were designed by humans, to reduce the danger we have caused towards this planet. Linked to each image are documents providing an overview of the three anti-climate change programmes.

Video Critique: The Greenhouse Effect
This video gives a very basic explanation of what the greenhouse effect actually is, and how it is caused. It touches on the fact that, at the fastest rate since the industrial revolution, the Earth's climate is rising. The world is getting hotter, sea levels are rising, and the ice caps are melting. A common misconception of the greenhouse effect is that it is all bad; on the contrary, without the greenhouse effect, the world's average temperature would be around -18 degrees Celsius. With it, our average temperature is around 15 degrees Celsius. The problem lies within the enhanced greebhouse effect. Particles within the Earth's atmosphere ensure that a percentage of the sun's radiation is not realised out into space, but rather is reflected back onto the Earth. Unfortunately, the greenhouse gases created by human pollution, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxided, bind with these particles, and cause more of the sun's thermal energy to stay inside the thermosphere. This leads to climate change, and from there serious consequences.
